About The Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation

The Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation is a non-profit, tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the life of our inspiration Jimmy Miller. The JMMF provides free of charge its unique program of Ocean Therapy to the United States Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Battalion-West, as well as the Veterans from the West LA Veterans Hospital and youth from several care and shelter facilities for at risk and foster children. The JMMF Ocean Therapy program for the Marines takes place year round on the beach at Camp Pendleton and the program for the Veterans and children operates on the beach at Manhattan Beach, CA, during the spring and summer months.

The JMMF Ocean Therapy program combines occupational and recreational therapies with the sport of surfing in the healing environment of the ocean. Ocean Therapy is proven to assist recovery and rehabilitation for those challenged by Post Traumatic Stress Disorders (“PTSD”,) traumatic brain injuries, and other emotional, mental and medical conditions. The JMMF team consists of professional occupational and psychological therapists, expert surf instructors, experienced water pros and lifeguards, and dedicated volunteers.

We are so incredibly humbled by Alex Gray's words last night: Had a great time raising awareness with my favorite foundation ever @jimmymillerfoundation! The foundation carries on the life of Jimmy Miller. I can honestly say I would've never found surfing if it wasn't for Jimmy. When my brother Chris was 12, Jimmy taught him how to surf as his junior lifeguard instructor. That day changed my family's life forever. All my brother and I did from then on was try be Jimmy. We even grew our hair out and squeezed lemons in it to hopefully bleach it like jimmys hahaha. Jimmy became a brother to us. He took us on our first surf trip to Northern California, we slept at his house on the weekends, he taught me how to drive a manual car, my brother wore his stylish clothes to prom, the list goes on and on. A few months after my brother passed away in 2004, I lost Jimmy as well. That was the worst year of my life. I will forever credit Jimmy as the reason I'm a surfer today. In fact, I'll credit him as the person I'm still trying to be :) Thankfully the Miller family has created this non-profit which helps wounded warriors while carrying on Jimmy's name in the positive light that he was. Tonight, during the raffle, I spontaneously thought it would be cool to giveaway my @cisurfboards in the back of my car. I love moments like this when it goes to the right person. Look how stoked the kid is!!!! Please checkout the #jimmymillerfoundation and volunteer if you get a chance. Smiles for days!!!! #southbay #jimmymillerraisedme ... See MoreSee Less
