Surfing classes are open to injured Marines and veterans at Camp Pendleton’s Del Mar Beach.

The Ocean Therapy Seminar for Marines provides one-on-one surfing lessons with professional surfers and instructors.

The sessions give Marines a chance to learn how to surf and experience the therapeutic effects of the ocean.

Many of the participants are challenged by symptoms related to post-traumatic stress disorder and mild to moderate brain injury and many are from the Wounded Warrior Battalion-West. The program builds confidence and among other benefits, calms anxiety.

The program is sponsored by the Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation, a Manhattan Beach-based nonprofit and was spearheaded by Carly Rogers, director of programs for the foundation.
