Inspired by the worldwide success of using surf therapy to treat autism and other developmental disorders, JMMF introduced our Special Needs Ocean Therapy program to young adults from the Friendship Foundation in 2022. The participants exuded the pure, unadulterated “stoke” for surfing and being in the ocean to a degree that we rarely see in life. Motivated by their enthusiasm, JMMF has expanded our Special Needs Ocean Therapy programming to include more ages and in partnership with more groups that serve this important community like Mychal’s Learning Place and those with Down Syndrome Regression Disorder with our friends from the Agape Fund.
