Inspired by the worldwide success of using surf therapy to treat autism and other developmental disorders, JMMF introduced our Ocean Therapy program to the special needs young adults in partnership with the Friendship Foundation in 2022. The participants exuded the pure, unadulterated joy of surfing and being in the ocean to a degree that we rarely see in life. They exhibited the “essential” stoke of surfing in a way that is indescribable with words. Motivated by their enthusiasm, JMMF is expanding our Special Needs Ocean Therapy programming to include more ages and in partnership with more groups that serve this important community like Mychal’s Learning Place.
